My journey
My journey towards breathwork started in 2013, a year that my friends and family will agree was unquestionably, the most traumatic period of our (then) young lives. Over the following months and years, and amidst trying to process the unexpected deaths of 7 of our friends in separate and sudden circumstances - I found a connection to the breath through guided meditation.
Since then and to this day, the practice of connecting to my breath has become a key pillar in not only the processing of difficult emotions, but in staying grounded during the hustle and bustle of everyday life.
Putting aside my semi-cliché sob story, I have spent the most part of the last 10 years gaining valuable experience in the sporting industry. I spent 5 years as Medical Coverage Coordinator at Sports Medicine Australia and have worked in Head Trainer roles at Claremont Football Club in the WAFL and more recently at Fremantle Football Club in the AFL. In 2020 I completed my 500-hour Clinical Pilates training and have recently become an Advanced Instructor in the Oxygen Advantage method.
My goal with The Breath Society is to combine my knowledge and experience with respiratory science to deliver science-based breathwork techniques in the context of sport and high performance. As well as to be a supportive and trusted source of information to a community of people that are interested in the breath, just like I am.
I’m grateful for those already working in the breathing and respiratory science space who continue to inspire me with their work. Notably: Professor Alison McConnell at Brunel University London, James Fletcher at Fletcher Techniques, Meg Sanderson at School of Breath, James Nestor (Author) and Patrick McKeown at Buteyko Clinic.
I work clinically out of LifeCare Physiotherapy in Claremont and I absolutely love it.
Chloe.
